"Pudding Monsters" Game Guide (Part 2)

( Updated on 28th February 2013:  I've included the changes made in "Pudding Monsters" ver. 1.1.  Please read the comments section of this article also because I've posted EXTRA solutions and other useful information over there. )

( Note:  "Part 2" of this article is for Episode 3 of this game. )

The "cloning machine" located in the middle of the screenshot below adds the most complexity to the puzzle in this game.  How it operates and how many monsters can be cloned (0, 1, or 2) will depend on whether the 4 squares A, B, C and D are occupied by monsters/obstacles or not.

How the "Cloning Machine" Works:

The "cloning machine" works in the same way regardless of whether a monster is entering it from the left, right, top or bottom but to make the discussion easier, here I only consider a monster moving down towards it.  I start by assuming that the monster is of 1-square size like what is shown in the screenshot below.

(1) If all the 3 squares A, B and C are occupied by monsters/obstacles, 0 monster will be cloned and it'll stop at D.

(2a) If only the 2 squares B and C are occupied by monsters/obstacles, 0 monster will be cloned and it'll appear from A and move all the way down until it meets a monster/obstacle.

(2b) If only the 2 squares A and B are occupied by monsters/obstacles, 0 monster will be cloned and it'll appear from C and move to the right all the way until it meets a monster/obstacle.

(2c) If only the 2 squares A and C are occupied by monsters/obstacles, 0 monster will be cloned and it'll appear from B and move to the left all the way until it meets a monster/obstacle.

(3a) If only the square A is occupied by a monster/obstacle, 1 monster will be cloned and you'll see 1 monster appear from B moving to left and 1 appear from C moving to right.

(3b) If only the square B is occupied by a monster/obstacle, 1 monster will be cloned and you'll see 1 monster appear from A moving down and 1 appear from C moving to right.

(3c) If only the square C is occupied by a monster/obstacle, 1 monster will be cloned and you'll see 1 monster appear from A moving down and 1 appear from B moving to left.

(4) If all the 3 squares A, B and C are empty, 2 monsters will be cloned and you'll see 1 monster appear from A moving down, 1 appear from B moving to left and 1 appear from C moving to right.

If the monster is a "red" pudding monster bigger than 1-square size, the "cloning machine" will behave like an obstacle to it unless it can enter its "1-square slot" with a "pointed tip" of 1-square size.  Then all the above rules will also apply.  If according to the above rules, it's possible to move out of the "cloning machine", ONLY a 1-square body part at this "tip" is detached and moved out while the remaining body will just move down 1 more square.  If a monster can be cloned, it's only a "red" pudding monster of 1-square size.

For the obstacle(s) mentioned above, you have to exclude the "green goo" left by the "green" pudding monster because it won't block the monster but it will "stick" the monster at its location instead.

(EXTRA) 0-Star, 1-Star, 2-Star and 3-Star Solutions for Level 3-1

I'm showing the full set of solutions for this puzzle because someone asked for the 1-star solution.

For Level 3-1, the 3-star (green arrow) and 2-star (blue arrow) solutions are very simple, so I show these 2 first.  The 0-star (red arrow) solution has fewer number of steps than the 1-star (purple arrow) solution, so I show the 0-star solution next and I use different colours for the arrows so that it's easier to see the differences.

Level 3-1: Step 1

Level 3-1: Steps 2 and 3

Level 3-1: Step 4, then Step 5 for 3 stars, 5a for 2 stars

For the 0-star solution, the 1st step is the same as the 3-star one (green arrow), so play that move first then continue as follows:

Level 3-1: Step 2b (0-star solution)

Level 3-1: Steps 3b and 4b (0-star solution)

Level 3-1: Step 5b (0-star solution)

Level 3-1: Step 6b (end of 0-star solution)

For the 1-star solution, the 1st 3 steps are the same as the 3-star one (green arrows), so play those 3 moves first then continue as follows:

Level 3-1: Step 4c (1-star solution)

Level 3-1: Step 5c (1-star solution)

Level 3-1: Step 6c (1-star solution)

Level 3-1: Step 7c (1-star solution)

Level 3-1: Step 8c (1-star solution)

Level 3-1: Step 9c (1-star solution)

Level 3-1: Steps 10c and 11c (end of 1-star solution)

(EXTRA) 0-Star, 1-Star, 2-Star and 3-Star Solutions for Level 3-13

I'm showing the full set of solutions for this puzzle because someone asked for the 2-star solution.

In the screenshot below, you can see 2 "eyes" and 2 "red pudding spills".  The "eye" is something like a "50% pudding monster" because it has to combine with a "red pudding spill" to transform into a "red" pudding monster.  The "eye" can move like a pudding monster but it behaves like an obstacle to other "eyes" or pudding monsters, while the "red pudding spill" cannot move and it does not behave like an obstacle.

Level 3-13: Step 1

Level 3-13: Step 2

Level 3-13: Step 3 (Step 3a is for 0-star solution)

Level 3-13: Step 4

Level 3-13: Steps 5 and 6 (Step 5a is for 1-star solution)

Level 3-13: Step 7 for 3 stars, 7a for 2 stars (end)

3-Star Solution for Level 3-21

Please look at the screenshot for "Steps 4 to 7" below.  A "spring" works differently from an obstacle in that when a monster moves towards it (refer to step 4 and the "spring" enclosed in "blue square"), it'll end up at square A instead of square B.

Level 3-21: Steps 1 and 2

Level 3-21: Step 3

Level 3-21: Steps 4 to 7 ("spring" is different from obstacle)

Level 3-21: Steps 8 and 9 (end)

3-Star Solution for Level 3-23

This is a tricky level.  The order of the 1st 4 moves is very important and you can use the same 1st 4 moves for the 0-, 2- and 3-star solutions.

Level 3-23: Steps 1 to 4 (order of 1st 4 moves is important !)

Level 3-23: Steps 5 to 7

Level 3-23: Step 8 for 3 stars (end)

(EXTRA) 2-Star and 0-Star Solutions for Level 3-23

The 3-star solution for Level 3-23 is more obvious than the 2-star and 0-star solutions.  Because someone asked for the 0-star solution, I've added the solutions below.  Use the same 1st 4 moves as the 3-star solution, then continue as follows:

Level 3-23: Steps 5 and 6 (for 2-star and 0-star solutions)

Level 3-23: Step 7 (for 2-star and 0-star solutions)

Level 3-23: Step 8a for 2 stars, 8b for 0 star (end)

3-Star Solution for Level 3-24

Level 3-24: Steps 1 to 3

Level 3-24: Step 4

Level 3-24: Step 5

Level 3-24: Step 6

Level 3-24: Step 7

Level 3-24: Step 8

Level 3-25: Step 1

Level 3-25: Step 2

Level 3-25: Step 3

Level 3-25: Step 4

Level 3-25: Step 5

Level 3-25: Step 6

Level 3-25: Step 7

Level 3-25: Step 8

Level 3-25: Step 9

Level 3-25: Step 10 (end)
